Tough Mudder training at the ocean

I love being spontaneous and creative.

This morning, while I was training for the Tough Mudder, I got spontaneous and creative. And it was incredibly rewarding.

I started off with normal interval training along the beach. Sprint to exhaustion. Then walk about 100 yards. Sprint to exhaustion. Then walk. Then it occurred to me that jumping into the ocean is a lot like jumping into an obstacle. You just have to go head first and do it… less thinking, more action.

So every half mile or so I would run and dive into the ocean, swim horizontally a few strokes, then I would try as hard as possible to sprint horizontally in the ocean for 30 steps with the water up to my waste. To onlookers this looked like slow motion running. To me it was grueling as hell.

After the 30 steps, I’d exit the water, walk about 100 yards, and then spring to exhaustion, etc.

Very satisfying workout.
