My second trip to East Africa
Holy shit. This morning I was drinking coffee and doing some work. And this college guy who will most likely grow up to be an underachiever but is clearly enjoying his time in college, said something worth taking note of not only because of its boldness but because of its effectiveness.
Here he was in the presence of a much, much hotter girl who he’d never met before (I’d say he was a 5.5 and she was an 8.5 on a relative scale). While he wasn’t the most attractive guy in the world, he made up for it in confidence, lightness and boldness.
The guy managed in the course of a minute to 1) create a context in which she was proving herself to him and 2) he was able to pivot into a story about his second trip to East Africa (complete bullshit).
He started off with some basic banter… “you’re looking a little tired this morning” (spoken uncritically, almost sympathetically). she proceeded to justify why “oh, i couldn’t fall asleep last night. ended up taking some ambien. but didn’t realize it was already 4am when i took it. but had to get up for work at 8 this morning, so not only did i not get sleep but i’m still groggy from the ambien.”
his next line: “I totally relate. On my second trip to East Africa…”
And she was hooked.
So why was she hooked? Here was this bold guy taking her on a fun, incredible, hard to believe journey.
